The Department of Botany was established in 1965 and offers B. Sc. Botany and M.Sc. Botany courses. The department flourished with well-equipped laboratories, plant tissue culture laboratory, Mushroom cultivation unit, Botanical garden, Paleobotanical museum and Departmental library.
Department has well qualified faculty, most of the faculty members are experts in their respective fields of research and teaching, and their contributions are evident through their high quality research publications in reputed international journals and recognition by various national and international academic bodies.
The department regularly engages in training programmes of mushroom cultivation, nursery management and biodiversity conservation. Department always takes initiative in study tours, field visits and onsite training programmes. Students are encouraged to participate in co-curricular and extracurricular activities like Avishkar, Student research scheme, Anveshana, conferences and various other competitions. The department has a very good track record of UG and PG results. The department has been recognized with star status by DBT and received funding from DST under FIST programme. Similarly the department is providing a consultancy for identification of plants.
